Italian BLT Wraps
Italian BLT Wraps are a new twist on an old favorite. Salty bacon, sweet tomatoes and crisp lettuce are still the stars of the show, but zesty Italian flavors rolled up in a soft tortilla, breathe new life into the classic BLT sandwich.
How did Italian BLT Wraps come to be?
On the weekends in our house, we usually make big, hot breakfasts. Pancakes or French Toast, eggs made to order, sausage in links and patties and crisp, salty, perfectly cooked bacon. Always bacon.
So we typically have some leftover bacon laying around that makes its way into the next meal.
BLT sandwiches are great choice for a quick lunch or dinner option and is usually what we whip up with the bacon leftovers.
But the other day, I was in the mood for something different. I saw a fresh bottle of zesty Italian salad dressing staring at me from the refrigerator door, and my creative recipe making energy started to buzz. A few minutes later, Italian BLT Wraps were born!
What do you need to make the wraps?
- cooked bacon
- shredded lettuce
- roma tomato
- Laughing Cow Swiss Cheese Wedges (I use the Light version to save a few calories)
- banana pepper rings
- Italian salad dressing (my favorite is Olive Garden brand that you can buy at most grocery stores now days)
- tortillas (I like the Mission Carb Balance because the are soft and a good size for these wraps)
How do you make Italian BLT Wraps?
Lay tortillas flat and spread one wedge of Laughing Cow Swiss onto each tortilla. Note that if you are using a larger tortilla, you might need more than one wedge to get the entire tortilla covered.
Layer strips of cooked bacon. I find that 2 strips works perfectly for this size tortilla. But, bacon is absolutely delicious, so if you’d like more, add it. Never be shy with bacon.
Slice a Roma tomato into thin slices and add them on top of the bacon. Top with shredded lettuce on each tortilla.
Drizzle 1 T of Italian salad dressing onto the shredded lettuce.
Top with banana pepper rings. These have a strong, sour flavor so I find that 3-4 per wrap is plenty. You don’t want to overpower the flavors of rest of the elements.
Roll up the wrap and cut down the center.
What can you serve with the wraps?
- fruit
- veggies and ranch dip
- chips or pretzels and Pretzel Dip
- pasta salad
- coleslaw
- soup (try my Easy Black Bean Soup with these)
- side salad
