Bunny Bait Trail Mix
A little sweet, and a little salty, this kid friendly Bunny Bait Trail Mix is such a fun Easter treat! It’s great as a snack, or a dessert, and it’s easy enough for kids to make in only 15 minutes.
What Is Bunny Bait Trail Mix?
This is such a fun Easter treat in our house! I usually make the week leading up to Easter and we snack on it a little bit it each day. I’ve also made a big batch of it when I’m hosting guests for Easter Sunday, and serve it as part of the dessert table.
Its a simple mix of cereal, nuts and pretzels tossed in melted vanilla almond bark, and topped with candy and sprinkles. The absolute best part of this recipe is that you can customize it! Use what you have on hand or ingredients that you family loves. Have a bunch of Cheerios? Use those! You kids love raisins?… throw them in!
This recipe really comes out awesome no matter what you throw into the mix.
What Ingredients do you need for Bunny Bait?
- HoneyComb cereal (find it here)
- Kix cereal (find it here)
- dry roasted peanuts
- tiny twist pretzels (like these)
- vanilla almond bark (like this)
- M&Ms (pastel colors for Easter)
- sprinkles (pastel colors for Easter)
How do you make Bunny Bait Trail Mix?
This is so simple! Definitely invite your young kids into help if you have them.
In a large bowl, combine 3 cups of HoneyComb cereal, 3 cups of Kix cereal, 2/3 cup of peanuts and 2 cups of pretzels. Mix to combine.
In a separate, microwave safe bowl, melt 24oz of vanilla almond bark.
Pro Tip: I melt mine in the microwave for approx 60 seconds. If it’s not quite melted, I add more time in 10-15 second increments. Keep and eye on it so it doesn’t scorch.
Pour the melted almond bark into the cereal mixture, and thoroughly stir to combine. The melted almond bark will sink to the bottom of the bowl, so make sure you scoop it back up and get all of the contents equally coated.
On a flat surface, lay out parchment paper or tin foil. Pour the coated trail mix out of the bowl and onto the paper. Use the back of a spatula or large spoon to pat it down flat.
Top with 2/3 cup of pastel M&Ms and 2T of Easter sprinkles.
Let the trail mix dry on the flat surface for approx 10 minutes, This will make it nice an hard.
Use your hands to break it up into smaller chunks. Serve in a large bowl and let guests help themselves.
Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
Ideas for customizing
As I mentioned, this trail mix is so easy to customize. Try some of these variations:
- Cheerios (regular, honey nut or chocolate are all good)
- Chex cereal
- raisins
- dried cranberries cranberries
- golden raisins
- pretzel sticks
- potato chips
- popcorn
- honey roasted peanuts
- cashews
For the candy topping, try:
- Reese’s Pieces
- chocolate chips
- chopped candy bar
- chopped Andie’s mints
- jelly beans
- gummy bears
Ideas for serving Bunny Bait Trail Mix
I typically just toss it all in a large bowl and let everyone help themselves.
But, if I am serving it at a party, sometimes I like to make the presentation a bit more special. Try serving in individual small decorative bowls or cute Easter cupcake liners.
If I’m giving it away as a gift, I like to put some trail mix into small clear plastic bags and tie a pastel colored ribbon at the top. It makes for a delicious and darling gift!
