What are Dipped Rice Krispie Treats?
Everyone loves Rice Krispie bars, right? They are always a huge hit at any get party. So I thought, why not turn it up a notch and add a little pizzaz to them?!
I start the classic rice krispie treat made with cereal, butter and tons of marshmallows. Then, I dip them in white chocolate and top them with crushed red white and blue M&Ms and sprinkles to give them them their star spangled flair.
But, here is the best part…4th of July celebrations for us are usually a time for a big get togethers with family and friends. We are typically outside playing yard games, watching a parade, or we are on the boat sipping cocktails or pulling the kids on tubes. So, I always try and serve food that can be eaten with one hand so that you can partake in all of those activities with the other hand.
My Dipped Rice Krispie Treats are served on a stick for 4th of July fun convince. It’s a bit of a game changer.

What Ingredients Do You Need for Dipped Rice Krispie Treats?
- Rice Krispies Bars (I use the premade ones so that they are perfectly square)
- vanilla almond bark or dipping chocolate like this or this
- M&Ms red, white and blue mix like this
- red, white and blue sprinkles
- popsicle sticks
How Do You Make 4th of July Dipped Rice Krispie Treats?
In a medium sized, microwave safe bowl, break up the candy coating into smaller chunks so it will melt faster. Melt the candy coating in 30 second increments giving it a good stir in between to smooth out any lumps. It takes about 60-90 seconds in my microwave to melt.
While the chocolate is melting, unwrap the rice kripies treats. I like to buy the 16 pack of individually wrapped pre-made ones for two reasons:
- It saves time
- They are all a uniform size and perfectly rectangle so I think they look nice and neat all decorated on a serving tray
If you prefer to make your own, by all means, go for it! There is a simple and delicious recipe krispies treat recipe right on the back of the box of cereal that honestly can’t be beat! Just cut them up into 16 rectangles once completely cooled.
Once you have your rice krispie treats ready, insert a popsicle stick into the center of the bottom edge of each bar. I recommend using the jumbo size popsicle sticks like these. They are a bit wider than traditional popsicle sticks, so the are easier to grip, and they dont slip out of the krispie bar while you are taking bites of it.
Pour approx 1/4 cup of red, white and blue M&Ms into a Ziploc baggie and seal it. Using the bottom of a drinking glass or a meat tenderizer, crush the M&Ms into tiny pieces. Pour them into a small dish.
Pour approx 1/4 cup of red, white and blue sprinkles into a small dish and set aside.
Lay out parchment paper on your counter.
Remove your bowl of melted chocolate from microwave. While holding the stick, dip the rice krispie treat into the bowl of white chocolate until its about half way covered. Shake it a few times get off any access chocolate, and lay it flat on the parchment paper.
While the white chocolate is still warm and liquid, sprinkle each treat with either the crushed M&M’s or the sprinkles. Leave them flat on parchment paper for appox 15 minutes to cool.
Once they are cool and the white chocolate has hardened back up, transfer them to a serving tray and enjoy.
Store leftovers in an air tight container for up to a week.
Other Topping Ideas
M&Ms and sprinkles are my go-to candy toppings for these Dipped Rice Krispie Treats, but you can really add any toppings that you’d like. Here are some alternate ideas:
- crushed Firework Oreo cookies
- melt red or blue candy melts and drizzle them on top pf white chocolate
- mini red, white and blue marshmallows
- mini chocolate chips
- red, white and blue Sour Patch Kids or Jelly Bellys
