Why Make White Chocolate Dipped Pretzels?

If you are anything like me, it seems like it isn’t until actual Christmas week that we really start with all of the holiday traditions and fun.

Christmas week is when I’m usually done shopping, the kids are off school/activities for Winter break, and we find ourselves home as a family with some extra time and holiday excitement building. So we end up cramming in alllll of the Christmas fun at once!

At night we snuggle in our jammies and watch our favorite Christmas movies, or we ride around town looking at elaborate holiday light displays, while sipping hot chocolate. But during the day, we bake. A lot.

Now dipped pretzels are nothing new, but this version is so dang easy and relatively mess free that its the go-to method in my house.

Most dipped pretzel recipes call for you to dip the entire pretzel in the chocolate coating, but I like to leave part of the pretzel exposed for THREE reasons:

  1. when you can taste more of the pretzel, you get that irresistible salty sweet combination in your mouth
  2. you can easily grip the pretzel to dip it in the chocolate so you don’t need a long stick or fancy tool while dipping creating less of a mess
  3. it makes this recipe easy enough for my 3 year old to do

How do you make White Chocolate Dipped Pretzels?

Start by breaking up the candy coating into chunks so it will melt faster. Using a microwave safe bowl, melt the candy coating and give it a good stir to smooth out any lumps. It takes about 60 seconds in my microwave to melt.

Pro Tip: If you have a very powerful microwave, melt on 50% power instead of full power to avoid scorching the the chocolate.

Separate your sprinkles and toppings into small bowls so they are easy to grab. Lay out a wax paper on a flat surface so you have a spot for your pretzels to dry.

Take a pretzel crisp and hold the edge of it between your thumb and index finger. Dip into bowl of candy coating( feel free to use a spoon to help cover the pretzels in coating if needed). Cover 1/2-2/3rds of the pretzel and shake it a bit to get off any access coating.

Place dipped pretzel on on wax paper and immediately sprinkle with toppings. Let dry 10-15 minutes or until the candy coating hardens back up.

Transfer to plate and immediately, or store in an air tight container.

These will keep for up to a week, but they never last that long at my house!

The Ugly Pieces

Now, the one drawback of the Pretzel Crisps is that they are a bit fragile. In a typical bag, almost half of the pretzels are usually broken. To ensure that you get two dozen nice, unbroken pretzels, I recommend getting two bags.

In our house, we dip the ugly pieces too. We just keep those for ourselves and pass the nicer looking ones on to friends and teachers!

Or, I whip up a batch of our very favorite Pretzel Dip and we dip the leftover pretzel pieces in that.
