Greek Layer Dip
Party and game day food is usually all about the cheesy, heavy dips, but this Greek Layer Dip is a light alternative featuring the tangy, bright flavors of the Mediterranean. Plus it’s topped with fresh veggies, so it won’t leave you feeling weighed down.

Why You’ll Love This Greek Layer Dip
I love a good potluck spread. Whenever the invite says “bring a dip or an appetizer to share” my heart beats a little faster. I just like trying a bite or two of lots of different dishes in place of a traditional meal.
I usually try and think of something unique to bring that will really “wow” the crowd. When people ask me for the recipe at the end of the party, I know that I have succeeded.
Some of my favorite flavors are those found in a Greek Salad. I feel like it’s one of those unicorn meals that has so many ingredients, and rich flavor, that it tastes like it shouldn’t be healthy for you….but it is. I am always looking for ways to spin garlicky hummus, salty feta, and cool, crunchy cucumber topped with zesty Greek dressing into new dishes (check out my Greek Turkey Wrap with Hummus here).
Last year, I was invited to a gathering an asked to bring a “healthy dip”, I instantly though of those light and fresh flavors, and figured I could probably bring some sort of a Greek layered dip to life.
It’s honestly such an easy recipe, that it quickly became one of my go-to dishes. Here’s why…
- Minimal ingredients, but max exotic Mediterranean flavor with simple items from the grocery store
- No cooking required! Just literally layer and serve.
- Perfect for game day or holiday party. A great, lightened-up alternative to heavier party dips.
- Busy mom-approved. Quick to make when you’re short on time but looks like you went to a ton of trouble.
Ingredients
- Boursin cheese (Garlic & Fine Herbs works best)
- hummus (original or garlic flavor like this one)
- crumbled feta cheese
- kalamata olives
- banana peppers (I like this brand that are orange and yellow for added color in the dip)
- English cucumber
- grape tomatoes or cherry tomatoes
- green onions
- pita crackers, pita bread, or bag of pita chips, for serving

Step-By-Step Instructions
Grab a serving tray, a shallow bowl or pie plate. Using the back of a spoon, spread 2 of the 5.3 oz Boursin cheese blocks into a nice, consistent base layer across the bottom of your serving dish. Tip: take Boursin out of the fridge about 30 mins in advance and let it come to room temp so it is easy to spread.

Next, spread 1 cup of hummus over the Boursin layer. I like to spread it narrower than the Boursin so you can still see a “frame” of the herby cheese layer peaking out from under hummus. I use store-bought hummus, but if you prefer to make homemade hummus, go for it!
Sprinkle 1/2c crumbled feta cheese evenly over the top of the hummus. Tip: on a budget? Buy a block of feta and crumble it yourself. It’s cheaper than buying a container of pre-crumbled feta.

Rough chop 1/2c kalamata olives and 1/4c banana peppers, and layer those over the feta.
Cut 3/4 cup of grape or cherry tomatoes in half lengthwise. Dice a 3/4 cup cucumber into thin, wedge shapes. Top the olive layer with the fresh vegetables. Tip: I prefer to use an English cumber as its a bit sweeter than a traditional cucumber, but either will work.

Garnish with 1/4 c sliced green onions and an additional 1T crumbled feta cheese (optional).
Serve immediately with sliced pita bread, pita chips or tortilla chips.
You can also make dip ahead of time…simply cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until you are ready to serve.

How to Store Leftovers
Either scoop leftover dip into an air-tight container(I love these), or keep dip on serving dish and cover with plastic wrap. Store in refrigerator for up to 4 days.
Pro Tips for the Best Greek Layer Dip
- Let the Boursin cheese sit on counter for a while to come to room temperature. It will spread so much easier.
- Make it ahead of time. Assemble a few hours in advance and refrigerate until serving. It’s good freshly made as well, but giving it a little chill helps cucumbers stay nice and crisp.
- Chop veggies small enough to easily scoop up with cracker. I like to cut my grape tomatoes in half and chop cucumber into thin, triangle shapes so they are not too heavy for a chip or cracker to hold.

Alternate Ingredient Options
Put your own fun spin on this dip by switching up the layers…
- Add protein: Want to make it more filling? Add shredded rotisserie chicken, chickpeas, or garbanzo beans.
- Make it spicy: Toss in some diced jalapeños for a little heat!
- Add Citrus: Squeeze a little fresh lemon juice on to of the hummus layer before adding the toppings for a little sour burst of flavor
- Swap ingredients! Use goat cheese instead of feta, red onion instead of green onion, or chopped red bell pepper in place of tomatoes.
- Top with a garnish: Try adding pine nuts, or chopping herbs like fresh parsley or fresh dill and sprinkling them on top of dip for another layer of flavor.
