Summer grill season is in full swing and this Baked Beans with Hamburger and Bacon recipe is the perfect hearty side dish to accompany whatever you are grilling up. With a little sweet brown sugar, salty bacon and tangy barbecue sauce, this easy baked beans recipe will please everyone.
In a large fry pan, fry 10 strips of bacon over medium-high heat until crispy. Remove bacon from the pan and lay on a paper towel to allow extra fat and grease to drain off. Once cool, crumble into small pieces and set aside.
In a large pot or Dutch oven, cook the ground beef over medium heat until it’s fully browned and crumbled. Drain any excess grease. Sprinkle the packet of au jus seasoning over the meat.
Stir in 1 cup of barbecue sauce, 1 cup of brown sugar and the chopped bacon.
Add two cans of the Bush’s Baked Beans (undrained).
Open the can of white navy beans and drain. Add them to the pot. Stir everything until completely coated in the BBQ sauce and well combined.
Transfer the bean mixture to a baking dish that can hold at least 2 quarts. I use a 3 quart casserole dish just to be sure it won't bubble over. Bake uncovered for 45-60 minutes, or until the beans are bubbling and the top is slightly caramelized.
Scoop onto plates and serve warm.
